What is a Blog Post? Format and How to Write a Blog Post

What is a Blog Post?

Blog Post is a writing which is a multimedia content that is published on a blog website or a web page on website dedicated to blog. A blog post is made by a writer or a blogger as every blogger has his own style and tone which makes it unique. Primarily blog posts are used to share information, opinions and engage with the audience via content. 

The primarily purpose of a blog post are to inform, engage, optimizing (SEO) and lastly promoting through blog post. Blog Posts contains different categories depending on your goals which are like How-to Guide, Listicles. Reviews, News Articles, Personal Stories and more. Blog Posts will benefit you to build brand authority, engage target audience, improve SEO and generate leads as it depends on the objective of blog post.


Format of Blog Post

1. Title (Headline)

Title is a headline of a blog post which is the most important part of blog post. As it attracts the users attention towards the blog post. The title should be descriptive and engaging as it should be click-worthy. Title should be between 55 to 60 characters so it fully appear in the search result. It should be SEO optimized with primary keywords and important secondary keywords.

2. Introduction

The introduction in the blog post should grab the users attention towards the content. By reading introduction, user should get the reason why he or she should continue reading the blog. Introduction should introduce the topic briefly, establish relevance and ignite interest of the reader. 

3. Body (Main Content)

Body is the main content of the blog post where the blog topic is explored in detail. Body should be well structured with sub-headings (H2, H3, etc.) which will guide the reader. Sub-Headings are used to break article into different sections of a blog post. In main content, a single paragraph should be in 3 to 4 lines. Moreover for multiple points and examples, you can create list or write in bullet points. It can contain optimized images, infographics, videos, links, researched data, reports, quotes and many more. 

4. Call-To-Action (CTA)

Every blog post should contain CTA with a clear intent. The CTA should be aligned to your objective and the blog post as CTA should encourage users to take specific action after reading the blog. CTA should be always one in a single blog post. Mostly used CTA’s are like Subscribe, Download, Leave a Comment, Share the Blog Post, Purchase a Product or service and more.

5. Conclusion

Conclusion in blog post is a summary of the whole article with the main points. It has only few sentences. It highlights the main points of the article. Conclusion is a good place for showing the CTA.


How to Write a Blog Post?

1. Define Blog Topic & Goal

Before starting a Blog Post, the first step is to define what is the main topic and what is your objective behind writing blog. Ask why you are writing this article, to educate, entertain, promote or inspire your target audience as what impact you want to create through this blog post. After it , you have to define your purpose as what action you want users should take. It is known as Call-To-Action (CTA).

2. Define your Audience

You need to know your ideal audience to target them through the blog post. For knowing your target audience, you need to interests and pain points. You should the problems or desire they have. You should know how you can help or engage your target audience through a blog post.

3. Conduct Keyword Research

Keyword Research is the most important element as it drives organic traffic. Before starting keyword research, you should know what your target audience searches on search engine. Use SEO tools such as Google Keyword Planner, SEMrush or Ahrefs for keyword research. See what is the search intent of user as well as blog post (Informational, Navigational or Commercial) and see that your target audience needs meet with the blog post.

4. Create Title

An optimized and click-worthy title increases traffic on web pages. It is a clickable headline displayed in the search snippet. It should mainly include primary keyword and some secondary keywords with increased traffic. Title length should be of 50-60 characters and unique to remove content duplicacy. Title should be descriptive, engaging and click bait as it increases click-through-rate (CTR).

5. Create Content Outline

Before directly jumping into the writing part, create a content outline. It will help to organize all the points and make blog post well-structured. The basic structure goes like :-

Title → Introduction → Body (Main Content) → Conclusion including CTA

6. Write Introduction

The opening in the blog post should grasp the users attention towards the content. By reading introduction, user should get the reason why he or she should resume reading the blog. Introduction should introduce the topic shortly, establish relevancy and ignite interest of the reader.

7. Create Body (Main Content)

Body is the main content of a blog post where the blog topic is studied in detail. Body should be nicely structured with sub-headings (H2, H3, etc.) which will guide the reader. Sub-Headings are used to break article into different areas of a blog post. In main content, a single paragraph should be in 3-4 lines. Moreover for multiple points and examples, you can create list or write in bullet points. It can include optimized images, infographics, videos, links, researched data, reports, quotes and much more. 

8. Write Conclusion

Conclusion in blog post is a summarization of the whole article with main points. It has less sentences. It highlights the major points of a blog. Conclusion is a great place for showing the CTA.

9. Call-To-Action

Every blog post should include CTA with a straightforward intent. The CTA should be aligned to your goal and the blog post. CTA should encourage users to take specific action after reading the blog. CTA should be only one in a single blog post. Primarily used CTA’s are like Subscribe, Download, Leave a Comment, Share the Blog Post, Purchase a Product or service and much more.

10. SEO Optimization

A blog post need to be optimized for search engine as title, meta description, URL, introduction and sub-headings should include focus keyword. Blog post should also contain internal and external links which are useful and increase the web page authority. Alt text should be added in Images and meta description need to be in 155-160 characters and encourage user to click on the blog post or web page.


Conclusion

Each blog post should give value to the user, engage user and an objective to write the blog. Using the correct format and applying all the strategies given will help you to make a clear intent, attract target audience and strengthen the blog post with full expertise.
